2014 SPE Northwest Regional Conference

Bellingham, Washington, October 10-12 @ Western Washington University, Art Department, Fine Arts Complex

Western Washington University and the Art Department’s Photography Concentration are pleased to co-host “TRANSFIXED | TRANSMEDIA,” the 2014 Society for Photographic Education’s Northwest Regional Conference. This conference seeks to explore, embrace, and question the ever-expanding definitions of photography. “TRANSFIXED | TRANSMEDIA” will dissect the past, present, and future of photographic practices as they relate to the constant redefinition of the field by featuring speakers, students, practitioners, theorists, and historians who are actively pushing the boundaries of the medium.

The Western Gallery will host a members’ exhibition, in conjunction with the conference, and there will be several other related exhibitions and events.

We are currently seeking proposals for panels and image-maker presentations that embrace, question, and expand upon “transmedia” and photographic practice in all its forms. Proposals will be accepted up until April 30, 2014. If you have any questions, please contact spenw2014@gmail.com.

The Traveling Eye: Auction & Exhibition

In conjunction with the 2014 SPENW Regional Conference, TRANSFIXED | TRANSMEDIA, there will be an exhibition and auction of donated works created by artists from Florida to Vancouver, B.C. In the spirit of the conference, the work featured will explore, embrace, and question the ever-expanding definitions of photography. There are no restrictions or limitation in terms of medium, theme, or concept.

Western Washington University and the Art Department’s Photography Concentration are pleased to announce that celebrated international artist Rodney Graham will be the keynote speaker for the Society for Photographic Education‘s 2014 Northwest Regional Conference, hosted in Bellingham, WA. Jess T. Dugan will also be a featured speaker for the conference, entitled “TRANSFIXED | TRANSMEDIA.”

The conference will be held from October 10-12, 2014.
